Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Somerville Homeless Coalition.

Options for volunteering with SHC are:

  • Coordinate a food/toiletry drive.
  • Prepare meals.
  • Help at an event.
  • Create “welcome home” packages for clients moving into permanent housing.
  • Volunteer at our Adult Shelter.
  • Provide administrative/office support (phones, filing, mailings, etc.)
  • Special projects and internships

Back On My Feet Boston: Back on My Feet (BoMF) is a national nonprofit that uses running as a catalyst to empower those experiencing homelessness so they can make “changes in their lives that results in employment and independent living.”

Community Cooks: Community Cooks is a “network of volunteers who offer free, home-cooked meals to vulnerable populations seeking assistance from direct-service agencies in the Greater Boston area.”

Horizons for Homeless Children: Horizons for Homeless Children is an organization dedicated to helping homeless children across Massachusetts by providing services such as education and opportunities for play. Become a Playspace Activity Leader (PAL) and support homeless children by playing with them for two hours a week.

Boston Cares: Boston Cares organizes more than 25,000 volunteers annually in support of Greater Boston schools and non-profit agencies. They offer a plethora of different kinds of volunteer opportunities, which vary from very time intensive to once a month opportunities.

Idealist.org: A website that provides job seekers with job listings within the non-profit sector, as well as having a database of countless volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer Match: VolunteerMatch is a search engine for volunteer opportunities near you. VolunteerMatch is a great tool to find your next volunteer opportunity in your area of interest.
