20 years of providing services, resources & support to help rebuild lives.
Mark Larosa, with a time of 15:43 for the men's division, and
Larissa Bifano, for the second year in a row with a time of 19:11 in
the women's division, were the winners of the Somerville Homeless
Coalition's 11th Annual Road Race last Saturday. The Somerville Road
Runners won the team prize, Ed Fischer won the Clydesdale division
and Chandra McCarthy won the Fillies.

The biggest winners are the families and individuals who get services
from the Homeless Coalition. This is their biggest fundraiser of the
year and this year's race was the most successful ever, thanks to an
increase in local sponsors and more runners. Daniel Shugrue of
Somerville won the Steve Burton Award for bringing in the most
pledges. Steve was a member of the Somerville Road Runners and
one of the Coalition's race committee members who passed away in
June.

The Homeless Coalition would like to thank everyone involved for
their support, from the runners, the volunteers, help from the City,
and a wonderful, hardworking race committee. Johnny D's started
the race 11 years ago to support the Coalition. Still active on the
race committee, Carla DeLellis and Dana Westover helped with the
brunch and were joined by Orleans, Redbones, Joshua Tree, the
Burren, and Anna's Taqueria and Store24 to provide a hearty
brunch for the runners and volunteers.

Major sponsors for the race were Central Bank, Pann Home
Services, and Target Stores with many fine Somerville businesses
also participating. Massage Therapy Works of Davis Square even
offered free massages to the weary runners.

The road race committee works all year to put on the race and
deserves credit for doing a great job. Adam Dash chairs the
committee, Somerville Road Runner Nancy Given provide
technical support, Carla DeLellis and Dana Westover from Johnny
D's and Mike Libby from the Coalition staff all help.
